To move from INVISIBLE to INFLUENTIAL - it’s time to embrace technology! Face it - if you’re still using overhead projectors - you’re either cheap or old. That may seem rough yet I’m only verbalizing the first impression that pops into people’s minds when they see you whip out one of those “relics” to present with.
Tips in starting with power point:
- Get the latest version that your computer can handle. I recommend getting a laptop. It saves you from having to utilize anyone else’s laptop. When you have to use someone else’s laptop then you’re subject to the “scanning schedule” on their machine, the cute screen saver they use (or not so cute - may be even risky or provocative), and the idiosyncrasies of their machine.
- Learn how to hook up your laptop to a projection machine. You don’t have to go get one on your own yet you do know how to link your machine to their machine and the buttons to press.
- Play with your PowerPoint software. There’s a host of prepared templates that can be utilized. And, online, there are plenty of free to low cost templates that can make you look exceptionally professional. I recommend www.poweredtemplates.com
- Work with someone who can show you the way around Power Point. It’s a fairly easy and user friendly software to use. So, let go of your intimidation of this powered presentation tool and learn.
